Tombstone Tuesday~James William Brock

James William Brock was the first born child of William L. Brock and Mary A. Garrett. James William was born October 6, 1850 in Simpson County, Mississippi.

He was a great grandson of William Brock, b. abt 1770, who migrated from Chesterfield County, South Carolina to Louisiana and finally settling in Simpson County, Mississippi prior to the 1820’s.  

About 1872, James William Brock married Martha Ann Miller, daughter of Ransom Miller and his wife, Aquilla Courtney. 2

James William and Martha Ann reported to the Census Taker, in 1900 Simpson County, that they had twelve (12) children with 10 living. Those ten were seven sons and three (3) daughters. James was a lifetime farmer in Simpson County, Mississippi. Eight sons provided a lot of help on the farm. 3

James William Brock died on 7 September 1923 in Simpson County, Mississippi. He was buried in the Palestine Cemetery, Harrisville, Simpson County, Mississippi. 4

James William Brock is a distant cousin.
