Sunday’s Obituary~Mrs. Carl Gaskins


Mrs. Carl Gaskins was Miss Charlotte Bryte Rivers before marriage, daughter of Frederick William “Fed” Rivers and Charlotte Jane “Lottie” Hurst Rivers.

Carl and Bryte were married on were 10 January 1923; Carl was 30 years old and Bryte had just celebrated her 20 birthday three weeks earlier. 

"Mrs. Carl Gaskins passed away Friday night after an illness of a few weeks. Mrs. Gaskins, aged 24 years, was before marriage Miss Charlotte Bright Rivers. She leaves to mourn her untimely demise, her husband and three little daughters, her mother, Mrs. F.W. Rivers, four sisters and eight brothers. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at Hopewell church, by Rev. J.R. Sojourner and Rev. D.A. Brown." 1

After four short years of marriage and three daughters, Bryte passed away on 22 January 1927 after suffering 35 days with Typhoid fever. She was buried at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. 2 3
