Military Veteran, WWII~John Calvin Purvis


John Calvin Purvis was born 17 May 1917, the son of James Frances ‘Jim’ Purvis and Lucy Pearl Deese. 

He married Alice Gertrude Morton daughter of William Thomas Morton and Nannie E. McSwain on 20 August 1938. 

He enlisted into the Army on 18 February 1943. At the time of his enlistment Uncle John and Aunt Alice were living in China Grove, Rowan County, North Carolina. Uncle John had taken his new bride there to work in the Cotton Mills as many others did prior to the war.

Coming Home
Queen Mary 2,10 Sept 1945












Uncle John served in the European theater and returned home to his wife and daughter on September 10, 1945 on the Queen Mary.
