William Brock, South Carolina to Mississippi

William Brock (1770-22 Jan 1844) and his family migrated to Mississippi about 1817 from Chesterfield County, South Carolina. He was married to Charlotte LNU (last name unknown) but some say she was Charlotte Farley.  He was most likely in the same group with the Gilbert & James Purvis migration. 
William Brock was the son of Valentine Brock and Susanna Blaester Brock.

William and Charlotte had nine children, the first seven born in South Carolina. The last two were born in Mississippi and Louisiana.

ii.             James Brock, born abt 1802, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina, United States; married Piety Leggett, abt 1829, Washington Parrish, LA; died bef 1860, Simpson County, Mississippi, USA.
iii.            John Brock, born abt 1804, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina, United States; married Mary ; died bef 1844.
iv.            Moses A. Brock, born 8 Sep 1808, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina, United States; married Margaret Six, 15 Feb 1838, Utica, Hinds Co., MS; married Celia Goodwin, 31 Jul 1833, Claiborne County, Mississippi, USA; married Eliza E. Boren, 13 Dec 1861, Hinds County, Mississippi.
v             . Emily Brock was born about 1810 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina, United States. She died before 1844 at the age of 34.
vi.            Nancy Brock, born abt 1812, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina, United States; married John Glasscock, abt 1833, St. Helena Parish, LA; married Isham Bracken Hinson, 30 Nov 1851, Hinds County, Mississippi; died 2 Nov 1899, Livingston Parish, LA.
vii.           William R. Brock, born abt 1817, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina, United States; married Martha Ann Worrell, 17 Aug 1837, Hinds County, Mississippi; married Jane Riggin King, 24 Jul 1861, Hinds County, Mississippi; died 10 Oct 1880, Utica, Hinds Co., MS.
viii.          Sarah Brock, born abt 1818, Clinton, MS; married Asahel Six, 22 Nov 1838; died 27 Sep 1864, Warren, MS.
ix.            Francis M. Brock, born abt 1824, Louisiana; married Lohama Six, 23 Dec 1840, Hinds County, Mississippi; died aft Jan 1890.

Charlotte died sometime before September 1842. On 1 September 1842 in Claiborne County, Mississippi, William married a second time to Katherine Delilah Jordan. They had one son – Richard Johnson Brock (2 July 1843-19 July 1932). Katherine died 27 Jan 1846 in Hinds County, Mississippi.

COMMENTS from Hinds County, Mississippi  Probate # 744 [1]- Wm. Brock - Moses Brock, Adm. Wife Catherine, son Richard J. Brock, Minor. Widow, Catherine Brock names Moses Brock, Adm. of the estate of her husband, William. She is helpless and unable to attend court - Utica, 22 Jan 1844.  17 Feb 1844 - Appraisal of goods. 27 Mar 1844 sale of estate includes: James Brock: lot of bells, 2 hoes, 1 wedge, 1 man's saddle, 200 lbs fodder, 30 bushels corn, 1 saddle mare. Ashael Six: 1 lot axes, 3 bells, 1 large hoe, 37 head of hogs. Robert Bower: 320 lbs bacon, 1 cow & yearling, 1 white cow & yearling. F. M. Brock: 1 small buggy wagon, 1 yoke steers. William R. Brock: 1 bay filly. Catherine Brock: 6 choice hogs, 1 sow & pigs. 29 Jan 1845 account has a debit of $5.75 for Ackrell Crumpler, blacksmith. 27 Jan 1846 account has debit for digging grave & burial of Catherine Brock. 24 Jan 1848 account mentions appraisal for slave John. Most yearly accounts have appraisal for slave John, whom Moses is renting. 14 Jan 1851 mentions charges for Richard L. Brock, minor, which continue through 1860. 29 Jan 1853 mentions that whoever hires slave John is to feed, cloth & pay his tax. Estate is to pay for doctor bill. 10 Feb 1854 account ditto. 11 Mar 1861 citation sheet lists request for the following people to attend May Term to show cause why final settlement should not be allowed: James Brock, Valentine Brock, William R. Brock, Sarah Six, Francis M. Brock- shows Sarah Six in Warren Co. & James Brock in Simpson Co. Executed on W. R. Brock 29 Mar 1861. Executed on Valentine Brock & Francis M. Brock 10 Apr 1861. 7 May 1861 - Citation published in paper for Richard J. Brock & Nancy Hinson to show cause why final account should not be settled. Published citation for Sarah Six to appear at June Term 1861 to show cause on final settlement of estate. Wm. McRae, Sheriff serves Sarah Six. 20 May 1861 - G. Walker, Sheriff writes "James Brock is supposed to be dead, but left a number of heirs residing in Hinds: Wm. Brock, James Brock, John Brock, Valentine Brock, Sarah Touchstone, Mary Garrett, Felix Brock and some others names unknown". Citation issued 10 Jun 1861 for William Brock, James Brock, John Brock, Valentine Brock, Sarah Touchstone, Mary Garrett, Felix Brock. No final settlement in Probate record. The petition of Moses Brock of Hinds County, shews, That William Brock, deceased; late of Hinds County left eight children, all of whom are twenty one years of age, except Richard J. Brock, who is a minor under fourteen years of age. That said Minor is possessed of a very small personal estate, consisting of livestock, & household furniture, estimated at about one hundred Dollars; and your petitioner is advised, that as legal guardian is necessary for the protection of the interest of said minor, - that your petitioner is the half-brother of said minor, and his father & mother are both dead.

Petitioner therefore prays your honor to grant him letters of guardianship over the person & property of said minor. Petitioner offers Frost J. Kelly as his surety on the Guardian's Bond.

All of the children of William & Charlotte are mentioned in the above estate record with two exceptions. John Brock and his sister Emily Brock.

Their son, Moses, born 1808 is buried in Utica Cemetery, Hinds County, Mississippi.
