James A. Brock (1829-1899)

James Albert Brock was born on 6 Dec 1829 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.[1][2] James Albert Brock and his family moved from Chesterfield, SC to Florida between 1857 and 1860. He appears in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 Censuses in Florida.[3][5][6] He served in the Civil War enlisting on 20 Dec 1861 in Bronson, Florida.[4] He died on 30 Mar 1899 at the age of 69 in Alachua Co., Florida.[7] James was buried in Midway Church of Christ Cemetery on 31 Mar 1899, Bell, Gilchrist Co., Florida.[8][9]

James Albert Brock and Mary Jane White were married about 1855. Mary Jane White, daughter of Samuel White, was born about 1833 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.[10]  She died about 1869 at the age of 36. Mary Jane is not listed with the family in the 1870 Census but a new daughter Jane is listed. It's likely that Mary Jane died of complication related to childbirth. No tombstone has been found for Mary Jane Brock.

James Albert Brock and Mary Jane White had the following children:

           i.   Mary Ann Brock, born about 1856, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Moses Fowler, about 1879, Alachua Co. Fl.
           ii.   Squire Lafayette Brock, born 7 Sep 1857, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Mary M. Silas, about 1884; died 19 Feb 1934, Chiefland, Levy, Florida.
           iii.   Samuel Washington Brock, born 7 Sep 1857, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Penny Cannon Rucker, 26 Aug 1885, Gainesville, Florida.
           iv.   Sarah Jane Brock, born May 1861, Florida; married Kendrick Peter Cook, 31 Jan 1878; died 16 Mar 1925, Newberry, Alachua, Florida.
            v.   Jane Brock, born about 1869 in Alachua County, Florida. [11]

James Albert Brock and Georgia Ann Boytt were married in Feb 1870 in Levyville, Levy County, Florida. Georgia Ann Boytt was born on 19 Jan 1838. [12] She appeared in the census in 1900. Georgia died on 20 Jul 1918 at the age of 78.

James Albert Brock and Georgia Ann Boytt had the following children:

           i.   Rachel Ellen Brock, born 3 Aug 1871, Judson, Levy, Florida, United States; married John Lancaster Jamerson; died 8 Dec 1956.
           ii.   Georgia Drew Brock, born Aug 1876, Levy County, Florida; married Henry F. Booker; died 1938.
