A petition from John A. Jones, Administrator (Image/Frame 118 and 119} states that Kenneth Pittman died "about the last of August A. D. 1881". His tombstone, in the Stroud Family Cemetery, shows he was born 19 June 1800 and died 28 August 1881. These dates are the only known birth and death dates for Kenneth and are consistent with his age as reported in the censuses.

Frame 118 - Death date & heirs at law

Image/frame 118 also lists the heirs at law of the estate of Kenneth Pittman.  The document reads:

"his heirs at law and distributees the following children, to wit: William J. Pittman; Jesse Pittman; Mary Pittman; Nancy Pittman; Martha who intermarried with Thomas Davis; Sarah who intermarried with J. Arnold Sellers; Margaret, who intermarried with William Vaughn".

  Martha who intermarried with Thomas Davis;
I have done extensive research on the Davis family of Chesterfield and do not have a Thomas Davis married to a Martha.  A buyer at the estate was Thomas F. Davis, I have 3 Thomas F. Davis in my database but only one from this time period - Thomas F. Davis, b. Feb. 1841, married Rosa Caroline Massey . So if you know who Martha Pittman married please contact me by e-mail.

His estate folder (Frame 107) showed that Calvin J. Lilly had a judgment against the estate for $48.00.  Kenneth and William J. Pittman were named in this judgment. Dated 3 March 1882.

Ironically, his wife Nancy Campbell Pittman had preceded him in death by only 2 month and 26 days. Nancy estate file (#476) showed that she died on 2 June 1881.

A petition from Thomas F. Mulloy to the Court for appointment as administrator records her date of death as 2 June 1881.

 These two estate folders contain over 60 documents between the two folders. I have summarized some of the basic information; however, these folders contain a wealth of information useful in applying the FAN (Friends & Neighbors) principle in your genealogical research.
