John died at the age of 36. He and his wife died in a day or two of each other and were buried in same graveyard. [They] left six small children. The Mother's people took four of them and their Uncle Epps Brown took [the] two oldest.
Based on research this is what I have found.
John R. Brown married Elizabeth Pigford and had 6 children;
Martha J. Brown, b. abt 1838;
Adelaide Brown, b. abt 1842;
Thomas D. Brown, b. abt 1844;
Enoch Timothy Brown, b. abt 1846;
Catherine Brown, b. abt 1848
M. L. Brown, female, b. abt 1852.
John R. & Elizabeth are listed in the 1850 Census for Anderson County, Texas. If family folklore is correct and he died at age 36 then he mostly likely died in 1851 in Texas and Elizabeth died shortly afterwards.

In 1860, I could find no record of John Brown and his wife Elizabeth Pigford. Two of their children – Enoch Timothy BROWN, age 14, born in MS and M. L. BROWN, age 8, born in TX, were living with Alford D. and Charity A. PIGFORD, In Lauderdale Co., Mississippi.

Their older daughter, Martha J. BROWN was married to Andrew S. BRADLEY and living in Clarke Co., AL.

Their children – Thomas D. & Catherine were living with their Uncle Epps Rivers BROWN in Franklin Township, Union County Arkansas.

This accounts for all of the children EXCEPT for Adelaide BROWN, daughter, b. abt 1842.
In 1870[5], Kate was with Martha J. Bradley and her children (Martha was a widow) in Lauderdale Co and Thomas D. Brown and his wife, Mary Blackwell were neighbors with Enoch Thomas Brown in their household.
Martha’s husband, Andrew most likely died during the Civil War; but, to date I have found no record.

I have looked at an index for Anderson County, Texas probate record and there is no listing for the Brown surname.
How could the parents of these children pass away and they get from Texas to Mississippi and Arkansas without some kind of probate action.
No cemetery record has been found for John R. and Elizabeth but this is to be expected; the minor children did not have any means of paying for burial or tombstone.
This couple is a real mystery that I hope one day to find exactly what happen to them while in Texas.
