Who was Jesse Freeman’s Second Wife?

Jesse Freeman was born in 1804 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.1 He appeared in the census 1840-1880 Census for Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.2 3 4 5 He died in Jul 1881 at the age of 77 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.6 7 Jesse’s estate was probated in 1881 at Chesterfield County South Carolina Probate Court.8

Jesse Freeman and Sarah Jane Davis were married about 1828 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. Sarah Jane Davis, daughter of Thomas Davis and Nancy Rivers, was born in 1804 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina, United States. 9 10 11 Sarah Jane Davis Freeman died between 1870 and 1880 at the age of 66+ in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. No document has been found that reports the exact date she died.

Jesse Freeman and Sarah Jane Davis had 10 children:

i. Sarah Ann Freeman, born 14 Jul 1827.
ii. Mary Ann Freeman, born 2 Oct 1829.
iii. Lewis L. Freeman, born 1832.
iv. Jane Freeman, born 1834.
v. William M. "Bill" Freeman, born 9 Aug 1836.
vi. Jesse Freeman, born 1838.
vii. John F. Freeman was born in 1842. 12 13 14 He served in the military Civil War in 1861–1865.1516 He died on 21 Jun 1864 at the age of 22 in Ft. Monroe, VA.17
viii. Christine Freeman, born 15 Apr 1843.
ix. Rosa Effie Freeman, born 1848.
x. Ann Elizabeth "Annie" Freeman, born Mar 1850

After Sarah Jane Davis died her husband Jesse Freeman remarried. The 1880 Census clearly shows that his wife name was Mary (LNU), age 35 born [1845] in SC. The date of this marriage is unknown.18 19

Not only does the census show that Jesse remarried and that his new wife was named Mary; if also shows that she was half his age.

After the death of Jesse there was a lawsuit involving his children and his estate. I wrote about this lawsuit in an article that can be found here.

The lawsuit was a Complaint for Relief brought by daughters Mary Ann and Effie and their husbands.

COMPLAINT FOR RELIEF.20

Mary Ann Wadsworth and her husband, Louis H. Wadsworth, Effie Purvis and her husband, Stephen D. Purvis.
PLAINTIFFS
Against
William Freeman
Louis Freeman
Mary Freeman [Wife of Jessie Freeman]
Sarah Ann Odom
Christine F. Turnage
Ann Hall
Temple Par
Elizabeth Poston
Defendants
That lawsuit also referred to Mary Freeman the wife of Jesse Freeman in the following paragraph:
Jessie Freeman Left Surviving Him:
His Widow---Mary and the following children:
William Freeman
Louis Freeman
Christine Married Robert Turnage
Ann " Joseph Wall
Elizabeth " Elisha Poston
Mary Ann " Louis Wadsworth
Effie " Stephen C. Purvis
Sarah Ann " John D. Odom
One granddaughter named Temple Par, daughter of Jane Freeman who married Benjamin Brock, predeceased her said father, Jesse Freeman.

The evidence supports the fact that after Sarah Jane Davis died; Jesse married a younger lady name Mary (LNU).21

The question now is - Who was Mary?
What happen to her after Jesse died in July 1881?

If you have any info about Jesse Freeman and his second wife – Mary (LNU); I would love to hear from you and will gladly exchange research information with you.
