Ahnentafel of Samuel Rufus Brock

The Brock’s of Chesterfield County, South Carolina are ALL descendants of Johan Valentine Brock born abt 1723 in Oberhochstadt, Germany; married 11 Nov 1760 in Germantown, Lancaster County, PA. Susanna Blaester born abt 1740.

Vallentin <sic> BROCK arrived in Philadelphia on board the ship Queen of Denmark, George Parish commander, from Rotterdam via Cowes, England, and took the oaths with the other 98 adult [age 16 and older] male passengers at the  [old] courthouse on Friday 4 Oct 1751. Vallentin did not sign his own name to the oath, but simply put his X next to what someone else wrote for him.

This is a works in progress and a lifetime, almost 40 years, search for my Brock ancestors.

James L Brock born 1793 (#8 above) is believe to be a son of a Valentine Brock born 1765, Cheraw District, Chesterfield, South Carolina. Due to a lack of record (burned by Gen. Sherman) no proof has been found at this time.

Court documents in Hinds and Rankin County, Mississippi shows that James L. Brock and his wife Elizabeth Purvis along with Wright Barnes and his wife Nancy Purvis were involved in a disagreement within the family. Both are daughters of James F. Purvis, Sr. who died in Nov 1836, Rankin County, Mississippi. James F. Purvis, Sr. and Gilbert Purvis, Sr. are brothers. [1]

Gilbert Johnson Purvis, Son of Gilbert Purvis, Sr. and Effica Howell Purvis, in his Will left the following instructions:
Last Will and Testament of Gilbert Johnson Purvis, states, in part, as follows. Property of Gilbert Johnson Purvis, son of Gilbert Purvis, was in dispute with James P. J. Purvis and William Purvis. It is my desire that my property to which I am entitled shall be divided between all the children of James Purvis Sr. of Rankin Co.
