Mystery Monday~Mary Jane Knight Davis


Mary Jane Knight, a daughter of Richard Knight & Temperance, was born  ca 1828, in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. 1 2

Mary Jane Knight and Capt. Benjamin Thomas Davis were married about 1849 in South Carolina.3 Capt. Benjamin Thomas Davis, son of William Davis and Julia Thurman, was born in 1829 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.4

They appeared as a family unit in both the 1850 and 1860 Census for Chesterfield County, South Carolina.5 6

Benjamin Thomas served as Co-Captain of Company “E”, 21st SC Infantry with his brother Captain Alfred W. Davis. 710 Captain B. T. Davis was killed on 28 May 1864 in the Battle at Bermuda Hundred/Ft. Stevens, Virginia. His brother Captain Alfred W. Davis assumed command of the 21st SC Infantry.11 A Memorial has been created for him at www.findagrave.com.12

Captain Benjamin Thomas Davis death left his widow – Mary Jane Knight Davis. No record of Mary Jane Knight Davis has been found after the war. 

Does anyone know what happen to Mary Jane Knight after the death of her husband. They were no known Children and I have not been able to locate her after her husband death.

Did she re-marry?
