Surname Saturday~Sarah Jane, Daughter, Thomas Davis Family


This is an ongoing series on the children of Thomas Davis and his wife Nancy Rivers. Thomas Davis and Nancy Rivers are my 4th great grandparents.They had 11 known children that lived to adulthood.

This is a summary of the articles on Thomas, Samuel, William, Susannah, Isaac Jacob, Hulda, Jonathan Daniel and Elizabeth Rebecca Davis.
Thus far, we have taken a look at 7 of the 11 children of Thomas and Nancy Rivers Davis. Those seven are Samuel, William, Susannah, Isaac Jacob, Hulda, Jonathan Daniel and Elizabeth Rebecca Davis.

Today posting on is child number 8 – Sarah Jane Davis. 

Sarah Jane Davis was born in 1804 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. 1 2 3 4 5 She died after 1870 at the age of 66 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.

Sarah Jane Davis married Jesse Freeman about 1826 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. Jesse Freeman, son of Jesse Freeman, was born in 1804 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.6 He appeared in the census in 1850- 1880 census for Chesterfield County, South Carolina.7 8 9 10 He died in Jul 1881 at the age of 77 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.11 1213 Jesse had his estate probated at South Carolina Probate Records, Files and Loose Papers, 1732-1964.14

Sarah Jane Davis and Jesse Freeman had the following children:

ii. Mary Ann Freeman, born 2 Oct 1829, Chesterfield County, South Carolina; married Lewis H. Wadsworth, 28 Dec 1849, Chesterfield County, South Carolina; died 5 Feb 1901, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
iii. Lewis L. Freeman, born 1832, Chesterfield County, South Carolina; married Mary A. Parr, 24 Mar 1853, Chesterfield County, South Carolina.
iv. Jane Freeman, born 1834, Chesterfield County, South Carolina; married Benjamin Brock, abt 1854, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; died bef 1881.
v. William M. "Bill" Freeman, born 9 Aug 1836, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Sarah Ann Davis, 1860, Chesterfield County, South Carolina; died 27 Jul 1922, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
vi. Jesse Freeman, born 1838, Chesterfield County, South Carolina; married Ann, abt 1860.
vii. John F. Freeman was born in 1842 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.15 16 17 He served in the military Civil War in 1861–1865.1819 He died on 21 Jun 1864 at age 22, while serving his country, at Ft. Monroe, VA.20
viii. Christine Freeman, born 15 Apr 1843, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Robert Bennett Turnage, abt 1855, Chesterfield County, South Carolina; died 29 Aug 1892, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
ix. Rosa Effie Freeman, born 1848, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Stephen David Purvis, abt 1865; died 1884, Chesterfield County, South Carolina.
