Eugene Thomas Boatwright was born on 25 Mar 1882 in Anson County, North Carolina.1 2 3 4 5 6 Eugene died on 22 Feb 1956 at the age of 73 and  was buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in McFarland, Anson, North Carolina.7 8 9

Eugene Thomas Boatwright married Emma Frances Previtte  about 1900.10 Emma Frances was the daughter of John Washington Previtte and Elizabeth "Bette" Davis. Emma was born on 8 Jul 1878 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.11 12 13 14 15 16 She died on 9 Jul 1947 at the age of 69 and was buried on 11 Jul 1947 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in McFarlan, Anson, North Carolina.17 18 19

Eugene Thomas Boatwright and Emma Frances Previtte had nine children:

i. Jesse Guin Boatwright Sr., born 18 Sep 1901, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Mary Isabel Watts; died 12 Oct 1965, Morven, Anson, North Carolina.

ii. John Dewey Boatwright, born 24 Aug 1903, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Natha Lee Previtte.

iii. Henry Thompson Boatwright was born on 17 Oct 1906 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. 20 21 He died on 24 Sep 1928 at the age of 21 and was buried in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. 22

iv. Fannie Geneva Boatwright, born 5 May 1909, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.

v. Bessie Mae Boatwright, born 6 Aug 1911, Morven, Anson, North Carolina; married Mack McVeigh; died 14 Feb 1999, Hartsville, Darlington, South Carolina.

vi. Eugene Helton Boatwright, born 30 Apr 1913, Anson County; married Naomi Rivers; died 27 Apr 1999, Cheraw, Chesterfield, South Carolina.

vii. Walter Dewitt Boatwright, born 15 Jan 1915, Morven, Anson, North Carolina; married Margaret Evelyn Outlaw, 15 Jan 1949, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Florena Elizabeth Guill; died 27 Nov 2001, Hartsville, Darlington, South Carolina.

viii. Ernest Devoid Boatwright was born on 27 Aug 1920 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. 23 He died in Jul 1978 at the age of 57 and was was buried in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.

ix. Pierce Lenox Boatwright was born on 21 Apr 1924 in Morven, Anson, North Carolina. 24


Eugene Thomas Boatwright is my second cousin 3 times removed; his wife Emma Previtte is my Great Grand Aunt thus Eugene became my Great Grand Uncle by marriage.

  1. This is a wonderful find. My father was Ernest Devoid Boatwright and after he passed I lost contact with my family on the Boatwright side. I knew some of my Aunts and Uncles (I met them as a small child) but my father passed away when I was only 13 years old and some of his siblings had already passed before then so a few of them I had never even knew or met. Thank you for finding this info and it was so nice to read about my family history.

  2. Quick note about my father Ernest Devoid Boatwright and where he is buried. He is actually buried in Danville, Virginia where he lived before he passed away. I just went back to read the notes again and realized that it said he was buried in South Carolina. If you need a link to a picture of his headstone, let me know and I'll get that to you.
