Military Monday- Sons of Samuel W. Brock

Amanuensis Monday is a genealogy blogging theme. It was started by John Newmark who writes the TransylvanianDutch blog.
 
His definition of Amanuensis is:
Amanuensis: A person employed to write what another dictates or to copy what has been written by another.

Today’s subject is the five (5) sons of Samuel W. Brock and his wife, Martha [LNU] that served in the Civil War.


Samuel and Martha sent 5 of 7 sons off to the Civil War. Only one, Eli, returned home. Sons, Samuel W.; Joel W.; Calvin and Thomas were all lost during the war either to battle wounds or diseases.

• Joel Washington Brock, b. 1829 – died 29 November 1864 of  disease¹
• Samuel W. Brock, b. 1830 – died 30 November 1864 of  disease²
• Eli Brock, b. Feb. 1836 – died 1905 – Returned home, Married Mary Jane White ³
• Calvin Brock, b. 22 Feb. 1832 – died 9 Feb 1865, died while in Prison at Camp Chase ⁴
• Thomas Brock, b. abt 1839 – died 17 October 1863; Died of Typhoid fever, in Hospital at Columbia, SC.⁵

Samuel and Martha had two other sons William P. Brock , b. abt 1827 and James Paul Brock, born 28 February 1845. I have found no record that indicates that these two sons join or served in the military.


Samuel W. Brock is my 3rd Great Grand Uncle and his sons are my 1st cousin 4 time removed.
