Sunday’s Obituary~John T. Hurst Laid to rest

 
JOHN T. HURST LAID TO REST
Veteran Chesterfield Merchant Dies After Several Month of Ill Health.
Special to The State.

Chesterfield, Aug. 30.--John T. Hurst died at his home here last night after a prolonged illness or several months. Although Mr. Hurst had been in ill health for some time his passing was a shock to the entire community.
Mr. Hurst was 74 years old. He had been in business here for the last 45 years as a merchant cotton buyer, being one of the oldest merchants here in point of service. Had he lived until September 9 Mr. Hurst would have celebrated his golden wedding anniversary, having married Miss Theatus Streater 50 years ago [9 Sept. 1885].
He is survived by his widow, one son, Roy of Chesterfield; four daughters,Mrs. P. Meehan of Chesterfield, Mrs. R. M. Newsom of Ruby, Mrs. F. T. Thompson of Chesterfield and Mrs. Harris Marshall of Chesterfield and several grandchildren.
Funeral services were held here this afternoon at 4 o'clock.

John and Thetus had 4 children that had passed away prior to John’s death in August 1935; 2 sons and 2 daughters, Paul James, Bert Streater, Christain Beatrice and Amy Lois Hurst. 

John was the son of William “Billy” Hurst and Lavinia “Vicy” Sellers.  

John Thomas Hurst is my 2nd Cousin 3 times removed.

  1. Sounds like the family was looking forward to that 50th wedding anniversary. Too bad he couldn't have lived a few more days.
