Georgia Chattooga County To any Minister of the Gospel Judge of Superior Court Justice of Inferior Court or Justice of the peace you are hereby authorized to join Hales Rice and Elizabeth Rivers in lawful bonds of Matrimony agreeable to the constitution and laws of this State given under my hand and Seal this 14th day of December 1844

Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Rivers was born about 1819 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. 2 3 Her death date is unknown. She and her husband Hales were still living in 1880 when the census was enumerated.

Elizabeth Jane "Betty" was  the daughter of Dempsey Rivers (13 Dec 1797-13 Apr. 1870) and Nancy McDuffie (1798-1855). She was the second born of 10 children with 6 sisters and 3 brothers.

Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Rivers and Hales R. Rice were married on 15 Dec 1844 in Chattooga County, Georgia.
