Sunday's Obituary~Clinton Gardner

Clinton Gardner
KILLED BY LIGHTNING
Clinton Gardner Meets Death in Chesterfield
Special to The State.

Chesterfield, June 10. – During a storm that passed over this section Thursday morning, lightning struck and killed Clinton Gardner, the 16 year old son of John Gardner, near Friendship church.
Young Mr. Gardner was engaged in hauling some oats to the barn and was assisted by a negro hand. At about 8:30, while both were in the wagon, which was drawn by two mules, a thunderstorm arose. They had presumably started to the house in the empty wagon, the negro driving and sitting on the right side of the wagon, and the young man sitting in the back of the wagon on the left when a bolt of lightning struck the wagon killing Mr. Gardner, and the mule on the left side. The negro was stunned and the mule on the right side was knocked down but was apparently uninjured.
The funeral was held in Morven, N. C. on Wednesday. The services were conducted by the Rev, J. Tyler.

Clinton was my 3rd Cousin, 3 times removed.
