For this Census Sunday post we will look at the 1920 United States Census for the James A. Brock household, Chesterfield County, South Carolina:
The James A. Brock household is #6, Lines 22-28.
James Alexander “Zannie” Brock was the son of David Brock and Eliza Jane “Jannie” White. His grandparents were Alexander Brock and Timmrah White.
Zannie married Lucretia C. Brock daughter of Samuel Washington Brock and Sarah Jane Lee. They were married on 8 December 1912 at Chesterfield, South Carolina. [Lorena in this census is an error]
At the time that this Census was enumerated Zannie and Lucretia has three children:
- Gertrude, Daughter, age 6
- Elma M., Daughter, age 4
- Edmond B., Son, age 1
- Jannie Brock is Sarah Jane Lee Brock, the Mother of James Alexander “Zannie” Brock
- Lizzie Brock is the Aunt of James Alexander Brock. She is the oldest sister of his father David Brock and the oldest child of his grandparents Alexander and Timmrah White Brock.

Some of the information in this Census is wrong. Lucretia Brock was my great great aunt; my great grandfather was Squire Kirby, her brother. Elma M is really Elmer Manning Brock Sr. who moved to High Point, NC. He had four children. I work with his grandson in Randolph County Schools in NC. He did have a daughter Getrude Brock who married Thomas Hildredth Brock. Edmond B is Edwin Benjamin "Bennie" Brock. They also had two more daughters, Ruby Brock b 1922 and Dallas Brock b 1924. the Census report that I found said that Dallas was a female, but I am having a hard time trying to find information.Lucretia "cressie", getrude, and edwin are buried at Brocks Mill Baptist. They are towards the middle, but near the fence. Elmer and his son, Elmer Jr. are buried in Floral Gardens in High Point, NC I think Lucretia had a twin sister Loucrefine but I can not find any information except for the 1900 Census on MyTree. I do not know if they completed the census report correctly or if the census report was changed. I would love to find out where Zannie is buried. Thank you for the information. It has helped me with a lot of my family research.
