Sunday’s Obituary~Mrs. J. C. Davis

Cheraw, Aug. 8.-Mrs. Hulda Davis, 62, wife of J. C. Davis, died at her home in Cheraw at 6:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon after a long illness. The funeral services were held at 5 o’clock Friday afternoon at Zoar Baptist church2, about eight miles from Cheraw,and were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Smith, pastor of Zoar Baptist church, assisted by the Rev. G. J. Jacobs, formerly pastor of the Westside Baptist Church in Cheraw. Interment was in the Zoar cemetery.
Mrs. Davis was native and former resident of Chesterfield but for a number of years the family has lived in Cheraw. She is survived by her husband; five sons, Jack and Lon Davis of Chesterfield; Vestal, Harmon and Arthur Davis of Cheraw; one daughter, Mrs. Lela Thomas of Chesterfield; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Teal, Mrs. Jane Rives and Mrs. Rita Pruitt, all of Chesterfield.



Mrs. J. C. Davis is Hulda Davis, daughter of William Alfred Davis and Nancy J. Hurst.3 She married John Carroll Davis son of Isaac Jacob Davis and Isabelle Jane Teal about 1888.  

Hulda & John had 9 children; two daughters and 7 sons. One daughter, Roxanna, died at an early age. Two sons, J. Henry and Edgar T., also died at a young age. 

Hulda Davis is my 1st cousin 3 times removed.

[3] Her SC Death Certificate #11280 shows that she died from Endocarditis -an infection of the inner lining of your heart (endocardium).
