In Remembrance
Many of our young men have served their country, their state and this county. Some of these men gave their lives that you and I might enjoy the freedom we have today. Some of these men gave their all in defense of our nation. Their names can be viewed on the Honor Roll Monument near our local courthouse. One of those men was:Lenson C. Graves, born 8 December 1896, son of James William and Catherine Annetta Mangum Graves served in World War I (28 July 1914 - 11 November 1918).
On 8 October 1918, Lenson C. Graves was killed in France while serving as a Sergeant with the 118th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division. He was two months shy of his 22nd birthday.
Sgt. Graves is buried in Plot A Row 14 Grave 5, Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France
