They were destroyed with the burning of the Courthouse. There are a few “Equity Records” in the State Archives. Do not overlook this valuable resources if you are looking for ancestors in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

David Johns was born about 1795 in Chesterfield District, South Carolina. I do not have any proof of who his parents are but most researchers think that Roger John/Johns is his Father.

Note: [The surname JOHN seems to have migrated over time into JOHNS. In 1850 David is listed as David JOHN; in 1860 he is listed as David JOHNS.]

David married Rachel Boan/Bone about 1821.David Johns and Rachel Boan had the following children:
i. Eli Johns, born abt 1822, SC; married Charity Johnson, abt 1846; died bef 1867.
ii. Pleasant Johns was born about 1826 in SC.
iii. Elizabeth Johns, born abt 1827; married John Agerton.

David Johns, age 77, died on 19 May 1872. This date came from Image 58 of Estate Folder #283 or this direct link: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-19383-33959-17?cc=1911928

Probate Folder #169 has a document contained within it that suggests that Rachel [Boan] Johns did not live to see her husband’s estate fully probated. There is a document that shows payment for the purchase of a casket and burial of Rachel on 2 January 1883. This is not Rachel’s death date; this is the date the payment was made for the purchase of a coffin and her burial. 4
