Mystery Monday~What was M. Ann Brock Surname and What Happen to Her after the Death of Samuel W. Brock, Jr.

About January 1860, Samuel W. Brock, Jr. married a young lady name M. Ann [LNU]. Before his death in the Civil War, Samuel and M. Ann had two sons:
  • Thomas C. Brock, b. Oct. 1860 (no further info)
  • Samuel W. Brock III, b. Mar 1863; d. 12 Jan 1936 (never married)
Previously, I have written two articles about this family that can be found here:
http://carolinafamilyroots.blogspot.com/2016/09/amanuensis-mondayland-deed-from-thomas.html
http://carolinafamilyroots.blogspot.com/2013/09/widow-places-claim-against-estate.html
In the top article I wrote that no information has been found past 1880 for M. Ann Brock. Since that time I have found some additional information but I still DO NOT know M. Ann’s Maiden Name or exactly when she passed away.
As of my last posting about this family I mentioned that I had NO Information beyond 1880 about M. Ann [LNU] Brock. Since then I have found two Land Deeds whereby Land was sold to M. Ann [LNU] Brock by the Brothers of Samuel W. Brock, deceased and the deeds were recorded after 1880. .
Chesterfield County Register of Deeds, Chesterfield, SC
  • Deed Book 14, pages 218-220 – James P. Brock to M. Ann Brock. 17 acres for $42.50; 6 March 1875, Recorded 20 January 1897
  • Deed Book 14, pages 220-222 – James P. Brock to M. Ann Brock. 64 acres for $10.00; 31 December 1870, Recorded 20 January 1897
Since I found the two sons of M. Ann [LNU] Brock in the 1900 Census and have not found her, it is believed that M. Ann [LNU] Brock died prior to 1900. The recording of these two land deeds for land purchased in 1870 and 1875 also lends credence to the probable death of M. Ann [LNU] Brock prior to their recording on 20 January 1897.
Another clue that she passed away about this time is from Deed Book 14, pages 223-225.
The above represents that portion of the Estate lands of Mrs. Ann Brock, claimed by J. A. Watson under an alleged agreement between the said J. A. Watson and the heirs of Mrs. Ann Brock. It is situated in Chesterfield Co., SC near Brocks Mill.
I[t] contains thirty six acres and hath such forms marks and boundaries as represented.
Done by me Sept. 20th 1896 for J. A. Watson.

Clues to Surname:
Thus far I have only found one clue to the Surname of M. Ann Brock. That clue is contained within the 1880 Census whereby M. Ann Brock has in her household, a nephew named Robert PRESLAR, Nephew, age 6, born in SC.
1880 CENSUS: Cheraw, Chesterfield, South Carolina, Source: FHL Film 1255225, National Archives Film T9-1225, Enumeration District: 002; Page 287B, Line 29, Dwelling 533, Family 537; Anna BROCK, age 40, born in NC; Thomas BROCK, Son, age 18, born in SC; Samuel BROCK, Son, age 15, born in SC and Robert PRESLAR, Nephew, age 6, born in SC.
Was M. Ann Brock a Preslar before her marriage to Samuel W. Brock?
The death certificate of her son, Samuel Brock was of no value in identifying what his Mother's maiden name was!
DC - Sam[uel] W. Brock
