Treasure Chest Thursday~Delayed Birth Certificate~Charlton Rufus Sellers

There’s a very interesting database on Ancestry (paid site) containing Delayed Birth Record (1766-1900) and Birth Record for the City of Charleston, South Carolina, Birth Records, 1877-1901.

I have found birth records, such as the one below, for many of my ancestors born between 1880 and 1910 in this database.  Not all of these records are typed, many are hand written and some contains mistakes such as the one posted in this blog which I will be discussing later. On the other hand I found not only the birth date for Charlton but that his middle name was Rufus.

DBC-Charlton Rufus Sellers
The record (left) is for my 3rd Cousin twice removed. His full name was: Charlton Rufus Sellers
Born: 15 June 1896
Place: Chesterfield, Chesterfield County, South Carolina
Parents: James Phillip Sellers and Eliza Tucker (Father’s name is WRONG)
Correction:
His Father was: James Preston Sellers and mother Mary Eliza Tucker.
W. C. Sellers the informant is William C. Sellers, Charlton’s older brother. In 1956, Charlton was 60 years old when application was made and it most likely was preparation work to secure his Social Security at retirement age.

Charlton Rufus Sellers is my 3rd Cousin twice removed.
