State of South Carolina}
Chesterfield District}
Know all men by these presents, that I Lavina Turnage of the State and district aforesaid; for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have and bear for my daughter Eliza Rivers and for the further consideration of the sum of ten dollars to me paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said Eliza Rivers of the district and State aforesaid have granted, bargained, sold, and released, and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and release unto the said Eliza Rivers and the heirs of her body, all my right and title in a tract of land containing seventy three acres and bounded as follows to wit - on the South by the Turnage land North & east by O. H. Spencer' West Society Hill road I herewith release all my right & title to the aforesaid land to the said Eliza Rivers & her heirs against myself & my heirs or any other person lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof as witness my hand & seal this 3rd day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three..

Personally appeared James Coward before me James Powell magistrate in for said State who after being duly sworn deposes and says that he saw Lavina Turnage sign, seal and acknowledge the within & deliver the same as her deed and that he and Stephen H. Parker signed their names thereto as witness to the same.

Orig Del. to Eliza Rivers
With this deed, Lavina Thompson wife of William Turnage, is deeding 73 acres of land to her daughter, Eliza Turnage Rivers. Eliza Turnage is the wife of William Alfred Rivers. At the time of this deed signing, William Alfred Rivers is serving with the Confederate forces in Virginia. On 17 August 1863, William Alfred Rivers died at Petersburg, Virginia leaving his widow and 5 surviving children from his two marriages.
