Amanuensis Monday~Land Deed, Father to Son

Amanuensis Monday is a genealogy blogging theme. It was started by John Newmark who writes the TransylvanianDutch blog.

His definition of Amanuensis is:
Amanuensis: A person employed to write what another dictates or to copy what has been written by another.

Today’s subject is a Chesterfield County Land Deed, Duncan Teal to Thos. L. Teal  Deed. 1

Very little is known about Duncan Teal/Teel. The first appearance of Duncan is on 1 Nov 1862 when he enlisted into the 6th Calvary in Chesterfield, South Carolina. After capture on 1 December 1864 and release from prison at Pt. Lookout, Maryland on 20 June 1865 he returned to Chesterfield and married Louisa Ann Boatwright a daughter of Lewis Boatwright, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth Rebecca Davis. We know that Duncan and Louisa were married prior to the death of her father Lewis as shown in this SC Equity record.

[#94] Smith, E.B. Adm. & others vs. Elizabeth Boatwright + others - Bill for partition + c 1864
Lewis Boatwright died intestate 7 March 1863, leaving his widow, Elizabeth [Rebecca] [Davis] Boatwright and children: George R. Boatwright; Louisa Ann intermarried with Duncan Teal; Lucinda Boatwright; and grandchildren: William B. Davis, Elizabeth J. Davis and George R. Davis, the children of a deceased daughter, Elizabeth, intermarried with C. Washington Davis; Catherine J. Davis, Lewis Davis, Margaret Davis and Mary E. Davis, children of a deceased daughter, Mary the 2nd wife of C. Washington Davis; and William Boatwright, Calvin Boatwright, Isaac Boatwright, Nancy Boatwright, and Lucinda Boatwright, the children of a deceased son Samuel Boatwright.

Duncan and Louisa Teal only had the one child, Thomas Lucas Teal, as named in the above Land Deed.

Thomas Lucas Teal married Lucy Teresa Eddins and they had 10 children; 5 sons and 5 daughters.
Duncan Teal died on 12 February 1895; Louisa Boatwright Teal died on 1 September 1902. They are buried in the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Louisa Ann Boatwright Teal, the wife of Duncan Teal, is my 1st Cousin 4 times removed.
