David Sellers, Landowner; But, Who are his Parents?

I have spent the past 42 years researching various families of Chesterfield County. It hasn’t been an easy task and oftentimes very challenging and frustrating.  Case in point is David Sellers. Two simple tasks have occupied a tremendous amount of my time. They are:
  • When did David Sellers pass away?
  • Who are his parents?
Based on Census data we know that David was born about 1825. This is based on the 1880 Census for Anson County. This is the only Census that David Sellers has been found to be enumerated within.  I often use Land Deeds to break through these choke points but in this case land deeds have been of little help.  I have only found one Land Deed and it’s from Chesterfield County, South Carolina.
He married Annie Jane Smith about 1853. Annie was born 4 Nov 1831 and d. 19 Feb. 1917. David and Annie had 4 children:
  • Leander Jackson Sellers, b. 19 Apr 1854
  • Phillip Arnold Sellers, b. 28 Feb. 1857
  • Thomas Hughmore Sellers, b. 9 Nov. 1864
  • Hardy Franklin Sellers, b. 17 Oct. 1871
With names like Phillip and Hardy, very common names within the Hardy Sellers line, I feel confident that David is also a descendant of Hardy Sellers and Mary Cook.
