It’s Family Time~Mary Sellers Gaddy

Mary Sellers was born about 1789 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.  She was the daughter of Hardy Sellers and Mary Cook. Mary’s father died 12 Jan 1835 and Equity records from his estate names his daughter Mary as the wife of Thomas Gaddy.

Hardy Sellers died testate on or about 17th January 1835, leaving widow, Levinia Sellers and children: Hardy Huntley Sellers and Zylpha Ann Sellers and the children + grandchildren from a former marriage, John Sellers; Abraham Sellers; Philip Sellers; Richard Sellers; Mary who intermarried with Thomas Gaddy; Elijah Gulledge, James Gulledge, + Pheobe Gulledge the children of Pheobe, a deceased daughter of Hardy Sellers who predeceased her father; and, Iverson L. Briley, the son of Jane, a deceased daughter of Hardy Sellers who predeceased her father.



Mary Sellers and Thomas Gaddy were married about 1813. Thomas Gaddy was born on 2 Oct 1789 in Anson County, North Carolina. His parents are unknown.  In 1820 Thomas and Mary were living in Anson County, North Carolina. Before the next Census was taken in 1830 Thomas and Mary had moved their family to Dekalb County, Georgia. We find Thomas in Dekalb County until his death in October 1849 where he is listed in the 1850 Mortality Census. His wife, Mary Sellers Gaddy can be found living with her daughter Martha and son-in-law John Steen in 1850.

Thomas Gaddy and Mary R. Sellers had the following children:


        i.    Hardy Sellers Gaddy, born 29 Jul 1815, Anson County, North Carolina; married Nancy Malinda Ivey, abt 1856, Dekalb County, Georgia; died 30 Nov 1895, Jasper, Walker, Alabama.
         ii.    Anne Gaddy was born about 1819 in Anson County, North Carolina.
         iii.    Phillip Samuel Gaddy, born Jan 1825, Anson County, North Carolina; married Audry Anne Steen, 8 Aug 1850, Dekalb County, Georgia.
         iv.    Henrietta Gaddy was born about 1827 in Anson County, North Carolina.
         v.    George Washington Gaddy, born abt 1827, Anson County, North Carolina; married Emily Lou Riding, 14 Jan 1847, Dekalb County, Georgia; died 17 Sep 1862, Sharpsburg, Washington, Maryland.
         vi.    Phebe Gaddy, born abt 1830, Dekalb County, Georgia; married Wilson Singleton, 29 Dec 1850, Dekalb County, Georgia.
         vii.    Mary Malissa Gaddy, born 9 May 1834, Dekalb County, Georgia; married Daniel Downs, 1 Jan 1851, Dekalb County, Georgia; died 14 Oct 1899, Carroll County, Mississippi.


There are several death dates shown for Mary Sellers Gaddy but realistic her death date is unknown at the present time. She was last enumerated the 1850 Census with her daughter Martha and Son-in-law, John Steen.

Mary Sellers Gaddy is my 4th Great Grand Aunt.
