Amanuensis Monday~Trust Deed~W. A. Pervis to Marshall + Richards, 1878

Today’s subject is a Trust Deed~W. A. Pervis to Marshall + Richards, 1878.1





This Deed of Trust provided security (personal property) for a loan from Marshall and Richardson to my 2nd Great Grandfather William A. Purvis. These loans were mostly for agricultural purposes to buy supplies for the planting of crops.

County of Anson } I, W. A. Pervis of the county of Anson in the State of North Carolina am indebted to Marshall + Richardson of the county of Anson and state aforesaid in the sum of one hundred dollars for which they hold my note to be due on the 15th day of Oct. A. D. 1878 and to secure the payment of the same I do hereby convey to him these articles of personal property to wit: (1) one bay mare, (1) wagon (1 horse), 12 head of hogs, (8) eight head of cattle, household furniture, farming tools &c. But on this special trust that if I fail to pay said debt and interest on or before the 15th day of Oct. A. D. 1878 then they may sell said property or so much thereof as may be necessary by public auction for cash, first giving twenty days notice at three public places and apply the proceeds of such sale to the discharge of said debt and interest in the same, and pay any surplus to me, given under my hand and seal this 1st  day of March A. D. 1878.

Anson County} The due execution of the foregoing chattel mortgage was proven before me this day by the oath and examination of W. C. Hardison the subscribing witness. Let it with this certificate be registered. Witness my hand and seal of office at office in Wadesboro this 1st day of March A. D. 1878.
