From Gulledge Meeting House to Deep Creek Baptist Church, 1778 to Present

Joel Gulledge to Baptist Church [1]

State of North Carolina}
Anson County} Know all men by these presents that I, Joel Gulledge of the State & County aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar together with the love & affection I bear for the cause and Interest of Christ Have bargained and sold and do by these presents Bargain sell and deliver unto that branch of the Baptist Church of Deep Creek situated and now [known] as Gulledge Meeting House a piece or parcel of land lying and being in the County and State aforesaid being the Ground where on that Meeting house now stands and a part of that land originally Granted to William Gulledge, Beginning in the Spring Branch on a white oak corner below the Spring and runs West with a line of Marked trees to a red oak a pine pointer corner then So. Along a line of Marked trees to a post oak corner then Et. Along a line of Marked trees to the branch then along said Branch with its corners to the Beginning corner supposed to contain four acres let the same be more or less. To have & to hold

All and singular the premises above mentioned unto the said Society at said place and their heirs forever from me and my heirs and from all persons lawfully claiming the same or any part thereof. The Deep Creek Baptist Church was the 3rd Church organized in the County and dates back to 1778.













The Reverend Joel Gulledge was the pastor of Deep Creek Baptist Church from June 15, 1816 until November 1858 except one year November 1853-November 1854 when Evander David was the pastor. [2]  Rev. Joel Gulledge died 8 May 1861.
