Chesterfield County SC Estates~Estate Folder #494A ~ William Frederick Rivers

Chesterfield County SC Estate Series:  This is a series of postings of selected Estate Folders from the Estate files of Chesterfield County. No known estates exist for the period before the Civil War. They were destroyed with the burning of the Courthouse. There are a few “Equity Records” in the State Archives. Today’s subject is the Estate of William Frederick Rivers.


William Frederick Rivers, a Chesterfield merchant, died at the Charlotte Sanatorium on the late evening of 3 September 1926. He was a son of James Samuel Rivers and Laura Jane Davis. 

He left a sizable estate, his widow Nettie and 7 children varying in age from 15 to 9 months. One child, Vera Mae, had passed away just pass her 3rd birthday, at age 3, on 8 August 1918. 

His widow, Nettie (Hinson) Rivers was name administratrix of the Estate of her husband, William Frederick Rivers.

Heirs-at-law of the Estate are:
  • Nettie (Hinson) Rivers, age 33, Wife
  • James Rivers, age 15, Son
  • Maggie Rivers, age 12, Daughter
  • William Rivers, age 9, Son
  • Lera Rivers, age 7, Daughter
  • Pauline Rivers, age 5, Daughter
  • Roberta Rivers, age 3, Daughter
  • E. B. [Eugene B.] Rivers, age 9 mo., Son

William Frederick Rivers is my second cousin 3 times removed.

  1. William Frederick Rivers was my grandfather. My grandmother was Nettie Mae Hinson Rivers.
