It‘s Family Time~Samuel and Sarah Ann Hurst Boatwright

Samuel Boatwright was born on 5 Aug 1832, a son of Lewis Boatwright, Jr. and Elizabeth Rebecca Davis. He was the fourth of eight children born to Lewis and Elizabeth.

Samuel Boatwright married Sarah Ann Hurst  about 1851 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. This date is based on the birth of their first born, a son named William Manley Boatwright with a date of birth of 13 December 1852.

Sarah Ann Hurst, daughter of Isaac Hurst and Henrietta Rivers, was born on 10 Mar 1826 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. Samuel was a farmer just as most others during this time period.  Their family was small compared to others during this era consisting of 3 sons and 2 daughters.

Samuel Boatwright and Sarah Ann Hurst had the following children:

        i.    William Manley "Billy" Boatwright, born 13 Dec 1852, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Julia Ann Davis, abt 1870; married Lottie May Williams, 7 Jul 1912, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Susan Davis, 15 Sep 1920, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; died 23 Jun 1937, Gulledge Twsp.,Anson Co.,NC.
         ii.    John Calvin "Cally" Boatwright, born abt 1855, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Henrietta E. Hurst; married Elizabeth Mary Montgomery, abt 1896; died 25 Aug 1938, Sarasota, Sarasota, Florida.
         iii.    Nancy Elizabeth Boatwright, born 1858, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married John W. Therrell; died bef 8 Aug 1876, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
        iv.    Isaac James "Ikey" Boatwright, born Mar 1860, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Mary Jane Lampley, abt 1894; died 1 Sep 1928, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
         v.    Mary Lucinda "Cindy" Boatwright, born 1862, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Repsey Edward Tucker; died 19 Jul 1918, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.

Know all men by these presents that I John W. Therrell of said County and State, for and in consideration of one dollars to me in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged paid by William M. Boatwright of said County and state, have granted, bargained, sold and released and do hereby grant, bargain, sell , release and quit claim to the said William M. Boatwright all the right, title, interest, claim and demand which I have now, or may hereafter have either in possession or expectancy of, in or to any share part or portion of the estate, both real and personal of the Estate of the late Samuel Boatwright deceased, which I may have acquired through my late wife Nancy E. (The daughter of said Samuel) either of the real or personal estate. [Dated 8 August 1876]


Samuel  Boatwright died on 19 Feb 1863 at the age of 30 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. Probate Folder 80 documents the dispersal of Samuel's Estate.

Sarah Ann Hurst Boatwright died on 28 Aug 1910 at the age of 84 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. Sarah Ann left a Will and Probate Folder 1141 documents the dispersal of Sarah's Estate.

Samuel and Sarah Ann Boatwright are buried in the Boatwright Family Cemetery, Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

Samuel Boatwright is my 1st Cousin 4 times removed.
