1769 Deed Rowan County~George Dry to Conrad Grubb


In this deed George Dry (Cordwainer or Shoemaker) is bartering with Conrad Grubb and clearing up a debt that existed between the two men.



Transcription:

Know all men by these presents that George Dry of County of Rowan + province of North Carolina (Cordwainer) for + in consideration of the Sum of Twenty Two pounds Ten Shillings of Lawful money of Great Britain to me in hand paid by Conrad Grub of the County of Rowan and province afs’d on or before the Execution of thefs presents the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged Have Bargain Sold delivered and by these presents DO Bargain Sell + Deliver unto the said Conrad Grub one Certain Sorrel natural paceing Mare now in the custody and pofsefsion of the said Conrad, Branded upon the near Buttock or thigh thus  V F . Together with her young Colt and Trotter, Fourteen Woollen Hatts New. Also one fine Furr Hatt, Together with what Debts are which are due to me + charged in a Small paper book unbound, containing a memorandum of those who are indebted to me for work Done a my Trade and other work + Labour – and now afsigned by me to him  the Sd. Conrad Grub Being the Same day and date of These Presents To have and to hold  the S’d hereby Bargained  premises unto the said Conrad Grub + his heirs Executors Administrators and Afsigns To the only proper ufe + behoof of the said Conrad Grub his heirs + his Executors Administrators and afsigns forever. And I the said George Dry for myself and my heirs Executor and administrators the said hereby Bargained Premises unto the said Conrad Grub + his heirs Executors Administrators and Afsigns against al persons shall and will Warrant and forever Defend by these presents. In Witnefs whereof  I the sd George Dry have hereunto set my hand and Seal the second day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Sixty nine. –

I believe this to be Johan George Dry husband of Catherine Bechtell; father of Jacob, George Jr. and Eve.

The signature of Johan Gorge Dry on page 118 of this land deed is interesting.
