Nicholas Davis Last Will and Testament
In the Name of God Amen. I, Nicholas Davis knowing it is appointed ponce for all men to die and being weak in body but of sound mind and perfect memory do make And ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say first I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried decently at the discretion of my Executor and as touching my worldly estate I dispose of it in manner following to wit I give and bequeath to my son George N. Davis all the land and plantation on which I now reside being two hundred acres be the same more or less one negro man named George and one feather bed and furniture, and next I will and bequeath that all the remainder of my estate shall be and remain in the possession and for the use of my wife Rebecca Davis during her life as lent to her and at her decease to be equally divided amongst all my children that maybe then living…It being my will that in that division my negro man Jack should not be sold to a stranger but should be sold to that one of my children who will give most for him and if my wife Rebecca Davis should not choose to stand to this my will then I give her over and above her thirds one feather bed and furniture and also a chest of drawers and everything that is in it and I do hereby ordain constitute and appoint my son George N. Davis Executor to this my last will and testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 24th day of October 1804.
