Miscellaneous Chesterfield County Records Tidbits

Mary Cantey, eldest daughter of Capt. John Cantey of
Camden and Mary McGirt his wife, was "baptized Dec. 2,
1753, aged 4 years," in Prince Frederick Parish; but the
date of her death is not known. On Nov. 19, 1769, she
married Ely Kershaw, (d. 1780, Dec, aged 37.)

[Death.] John Balfour, Esq; late of Cheraw. Saturday, November
17, 1781.)

Died. On Tuesday 10th, instant, at his plantation on Cheraw,
Charles Skirving, Esq (Tuesday, June 12, 1787.)

Married. Lately at the Cheraw Hill, Christopher Vernon, Esq;
to Miss Badgegood, of that place.

Died. On the 7th inst. in, Marlborough county, Cheraw
district, colonel George Hick.—a gentleman of an excellent character,
and a very old inhabitant of that place. (Wednesday,
Jan. 23. 1793.)

Died. At the Cheraw Hill, the 4th instant, in the bloom of life,
Mr. Nathaniel Woodward, late of Plainfield, Connecticut. At
May River, about the 4th instant Mr. William White, aged about
95. (Friday, Oct. 25, 1793.)

Died, on Sunday the 7th instant, in child-bed, at Greenville,
Cheraw District, Mrs. Catherine Botsford, in the 34th year of
her age, the wife of the rev. Edmund Botsford, of that place.

State of South Carolina Chesterfield District Will of Turner Bryan…my son in law Joel Baker take the charge and care of my beloved wife Frances G. Bryan and support and maintain her and make her as comfortable as he can in her afflicted state; all my property of every description or kind money, lands, negroes, stock of all kinds, to be at his controll for her support and for the payment of a debt due by me to the estate of Hardy Sellers Senr; for his trouble and care that portion of my real estate to begin at branch that runs through the plantation where is the corner of Thomas Kirkley and Asa Hendricks, to the spring branch which heads near the dwelling house of Francis Johnson…tract of land I bought from Mary Taylor on Daniel Campbell or William Reves line, corner on the tract I bought from Judge J. J. Evans…towards Thompsons Creek; at the death of my said wife, the whole of the balance of my estate be equally divided among the whole of my children; to my grandson Charles B. Johnson son of my deceased daughter Penelope B. Johnson, an equal share of the balance after deducting the advancements made by me to his father Frank Johnson, and also $332 which his father Frank Johnson unjustly and fraudulently obtained from me on settlement sometime since.…Joel Baker exr. Dr. Alexander Washington Ellerbe, son of the late Thomas G. and Caroline Ellerbe, was born in Chesterfield County, S. C., December 3, 1847[?]; was married to Miss Mary E. Ellerbe, daughter of Capt. W. Ellerbe, February 13, 1873; died October 11, 1877.
