It’s Family Time~Thomas Alexander Gandy Family

After the death of Pleasant A. Brock on 28 February 1873 his Widow, Martha Eugenia Horne, married Thomas Alexander Gandy on 20 July 1875. The short 4 years marriage  between her and Pleasant left no children.

Thomas Alexander Gandy was borne 27 February 1842 in Society Hill, Darlington, South Carolina. He was a son of Maximillian Booka Gandy and his wife Margaret A. McRae. He was one of two surviving sons of Maximillian and Margaret. Their oldest son had died in the Civil War in 1861 and another son had died just short of his 1st birthday. They also had two daughters.

Thomas Alexander Gandy was a Dry Goods Merchant in Society Hill. He and his wife, Martha Eugenia Horne Brock were only enumerated in one Census (1880) before his untimely death in 1895.

Thomas Alexander Gandy and Martha Eugenia Horne had the following children:

        i.    Edith May Gandy, born 9 Nov 1876, Society Hill, Darlington, South Carolina; married Walter I. Harby; died 1 Nov 1950, Bennettsville, Marlboro, South Carolina.
ii.    Fred Darius Gandy was born on 25 Oct 1878 in Society Hill, Darlington, South Carolina. He died on 9 Jan 1947 at the age of 70 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
iii.    Thomas Ashton Gandy, born 7 Mar 1886, Society Hill, Darlington, South Carolina; married Mary Carrigan Sompayrac; died 3 Nov 1970.
iv.    Madgie Louise Gandy was born on 25 Apr 1888 in Society Hill, Darlington, South Carolina. She died on 6 Aug 1895 at the age of 7 in Society Hill, Darlington, South Carolina. Her birth and death is only recorded, to my knowledge, in the P. A. Brock Family Bible in possession of Gandy descendants. The Bible’s actual location unknown to me.

Thomas Alexander Gandy died 6 August 1895. His wife, Martha Eugenia Horne Brock, died 27 May 1925. Her Obituary can be found here:
