Enlisted: 1 July 1861

Discharged: 20 November 1861


As a young lad of 16, Elisha B. Privett enlisted on 1 July 1861 into Company “K”, 26th Regiment, NC Volunteers. he served until November 1861 at which time  his superiors suggested that he be discharged as medically unfit. He was Muster Out of Service on 9 Dec 1861 with a disability discharge.

PRIVETT, ELISHA B. , Private
Born in Anson County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Anson County at age 16., July 1, 1861. Present or accounted for until discharged on December 9, 1861, by reason of disability. Later served in Company H, 145th Regiment N. C. Troops (4th Regiment N.C. Volunteers). [NC Troops 7:598].

Then something strange appeared in the records.

A young lad from Anson County, named E. B. Privett, age 18, appears in Raleigh, North Carolina and enlists with Company “H”, 14th NC Infantry on 24 July 1863. On 2 April 1865 he was captured and made a prisoners' of war at Point Lookout, Maryland. He signed an Oath of Allegiance and was released on 16 June 1865.

PRIVETT, E. B., Private
Resided in Anson County and enlisted in Wake County at age 18, July 24, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on June 16, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.  [NC Troops 5:471]


No record has been found for Elisha B. Privett after his release on 16 June 1865, two months after the War has ended. If you know what happened to Elisha B. Privett, please contact me through this blog.
