It’s Family Time~The Charles Daniel Sides Family

Charles Daniel Sides was born on 7 Sep 1831 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. He was a son of Daniel Sides and Esther Dry. He was the 4th of 12 children born to this couple. Charles Daniel Sides was baptized on 22 July 1832; Sponsor by George Dry and Wife.

Charles Daniel Sides and Sarah Matilda Lewis were married about 1857. This projected marriage year is based on the birth of their first-born child Laurence Calvin Sides, borne 10 April 1858; died 25 July 1931.

Sarah Matilda Lewis, a daughter of Alfred Lewis and Mary Bell McCree, was born on 16 Feb 1837 in Iredell County, North Carolina.

Charles Daniel Sides and Sarah Matilda Lewis had the following children:

i. Laurence Calvin Sides, born 19 Apr 1858, Iredell County, North Carolina; married Minnie O. Holder, 29 Mar 1888; died 25 Jul 1931, Concord, Cabarrus, North Carolina.

ii. Mary Ellen "Mollie" Sides was born on 13 Feb 1861 in Iredell County, North Carolina. She died on 20 Sep 1929 at the age of 68 in Iredell County, North Carolina.

After the birth of his second child, Charles Daniel Sides at age 33, enlisted on August 8, 1862 into the Confederate Army for the duration of the war. On May 12, 1864, Charles Daniel Sides was captured at Spotsylvania, and imprisoned until his death on 8 February 1865 at Elmira Prison, Elmira, Chemung, New York. Charles Daniel Sides was buried at Woodlawn National Cemetery, Plot: CSA 1956.

Sarah Matilda (Lewis) Sides died on 2 Jul 1917 at the age of 80 and was buried at Concord Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Statesville, Iredell County, North Carolina.

Charles Daniel Sides is my 1st Cousin 4X Removed.
