It’s Family Time~The John George "Buck" Capley Family

 John George "Buck" Capley was born on 28 Aug 1797 in Rowan County, North
Carolina. He was the 2nd born child and first born son of Peter Keppel and Anna Elizabeth Grubb

John George married Mary Ann “Polly” Crowell about 1825-1826 in Bedford County, Tennessee.  No marriage document has been found for this union.

The 1850 Census for Bedford County shows the John George and Mary Ann had 9 known children.

The known children of John George Capley and Mary Ann Crowell are: 

i. Benjamin Franklin Capley was born on 15 Jan 1827 in Bedford County, Tennessee. He died on 30 Jan 1900 at the age of 73 in Bedford County, Tennessee

ii. Richard Capley, born 15 May 1829, Bedford County, Tennessee; married Nancy Almedia Jones; died 28 Feb 1914, Bedford County, Tennessee.

iii. Gabriel Capley, born 19 Oct 1831, Bedford County, Tennessee; married Mary Ann Short, 23 Dec 1855, Bedford County, Tennessee; died 22 Mar 1920, Bedford County, Tennessee.

iv. Catharine Capley, born abt 1834, Bedford County, Tennessee; married Newton Franklin Lentz, 30 Jan 1868; died 11 Jan 1910, Friendship, Bedford, Tennessee.

v. Mary Ann Capley was born about 1837 in Bedford County, Tennessee.

vi. Alexander Capley was born about 1840 in Bedford County, Tennessee.

vii. Barbara Jennie Capley, born 16 Apr 1842, Bedford County, Tennessee; married William Samuel Crowell, 6 Feb 1876, Bedford, Tennessee; died 5 Jun 1918, Unionville, Bedford, Tennessee.

viii. Martha Jane Capley was born on 15 Apr 1844 in Bedford County, Tennessee. She died on 2 Jun 1918 at the age of 74 in Unionville, Bedford, Tennessee.

ix. George W. Capley, born abt 1847, Bedford County, Tennessee; married I. A. Orr, 18 Feb 1869.

There may be other children that I have not identified.

John George was a farmer and owned a 135 Acre farm. Land that was at one time owned by William Cromwell. Sadly, John George Capley died  January 1850 of SCARLET FEVER at age 52 leaving surviving a wife and 9 children.


John George Capley is my 1st Cousin 5X Removed.


[It's not known why John George use the Capley surname instead of Keppel]
