Martha Ann Solomon. He was their 2nd born child. Franklin was a farmer and or farm laborer as most young men were at this time in history. By the start of the Civil War in January 1861, Franklin and Martha‘s family had grown to 5 children; 2 boys and 3 girls.
On 1 September 1862, Franklin A. Laton enlisted into the Sixty-sixth Infantry (8th Battalion, Partisan Rangers} at Salisbury, North Carolina. While serving he was captured and held prisoner until his release on 28 June 1865 by General Order 109.
During the war and afterwards, Franklin and Martha had two additional daughters bringing their family total to seven children; 5 daughters and 2 sons.
Franklin Alexander Laton and Martha Ann Solomon had the following children:
i. Frankie Annie Laton, born 25 May 1848; married William J. Laton; died 15 Mar 1927.
ii. Mary Laton was born 16 Sept. 1850; died 20 Dec 1923, Albemarle, Stanly, North Carolina..
iii. Thomas Allen Laton, born 8 May 1855; died 2 Nov 1937, Albemarle, Stanly, North carolina. .
iv. Sophronia Cathern Laton was born on 20 Feb 1858. She died on 28 Mar 1937 at the age of 79 in Stanly County, North Carolina.
v. John William Laton, born 11 May 1860, Albemarle, Stanly, North Carolina; married Martha Priscilla Morton, 12 Apr 1881, Stanly County, North Carolina; died 17 Jul 1952, Rockingham, Richmond, North Carolina.
vi. Martha H. Laton, born 8 Jun 1863; married Thomas Alexander Mauldin; died 8 Feb 1940.
vii. Etta Louisa Laton was born on 2 Jun 1866. She died on 10 Sep 1917 at the age of 51.
On 3 May 1889, Martha Jane Solomon Laton passed away.
On 23 July 1891, at age 62, Franklin Alexander Laton married Zilpha Jane Thompson, daughter of Tom Thompson & Mary Smith. Their only child, Rosa, was born Christmas day, 1899.
Franklin Alexander Laton, age 77, died on 11 May 1906 and was buried in the Laton Cemetery, Albemarle, Stanly County, North Carolina.
Franklin Alexander Laton is my 1st Cousin 4X Removed.
