It’s Family Time~The William Sellers Family

William Sellers was borne between 1803 and 1809 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.
He was the first borne child and son of Samuel Sellers and Alice “Allie” Cook. About 1826-1827, his Father moved the Family to Wilcox County, Alabama.
There on 27 January 1827 William married Martha “Patsey” Martin. Their first borne of this marriage, a son William Oscar, arrived shortly thereafter in 1827. There is a possibility that Andrew Sellers, b. 1826, d. 26 February 1864, is also their son.  

William was a farmer and spent his married life in Wilcox County, Alabama.

William and Martha had 14 children. 

The Children of William Sellers and Martha Martin are: 

i. Andrew Sellers, born 1826, Clarke County, Alabama; married Josephine J. Hough, abt 1854; died 26 Feb 1864, Mobile, Mobile, Alabama. (Named in his Father's Last WILL & TESTAMENT)

ii. William Oscar Sellers was born in 1827 in Clarke County, Alabama. He died on 17 Jun 1863 at the age of 36 in Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia.

Private. Died at Gate City Hospital in Atlanta, June 17, 1863. Named to Confederate Honor Roll (Southern Cross of Honor) for Battle of Murfreesboro.

iii. John R. Sellers, born 1829, Clarke County, Alabama; married Clarinda E. Dodd; died 1867.

iv. Martha Sellers, born 1833, Clarke County, Alabama; married Calvin S. Wiggins, 28 Jan 1858, Clarke County, Alabama; died bef 1864, Clarke County, Alabama.

v. Margaret Sellers, born 1834, Clarke County, Alabama; married Joshua Herrin, 19 Dec 1848, Clarke, Alabama; married Dempsey P. Pace, 20 Dec 1865, Clarke County, Alabama; died aft 1880.

vi. Matthew Isaac Sellers was born in 1836 in Clarke County, Alabama. 12 He died in 1904 at the age of 68

vii. Mary Jane Sellers, born 1837, Clarke County, Alabama; married John May; married Thomas Larkin Jarvis, 7 Dec 1865, Clarke County, Alabama; died 1910.

viii. Hardy P. Sellers, born 1838, Clarke County, Alabama; married Mary K. Clark, 30 May 1859, Clarke County, Alabama; died 17 Jun 1899, Clarke County, Alabama.

ix. Caroline C. Sellers, born 1839, Clarke County, Alabama; married James Andrew Martin, 12 Nov 1859, Clarke County, Alabama; died bef 17 May 1869.

x. Calvin Joe Sellers, born 1841, Clarke County, Alabama; married Harriet Martin, 6 Nov 1861; died bef 20 Aug 1878, Coffeeville, Clarke, Alabama.

xi. Robert Lee Sellers was born in 1844 in Clarke County, Alabama. He died in 1870 at the age of 26 in Clarke County, Alabama.

xii. Micajah C. "Mac" Sellers was born in Jul 1845 in Clarke County, Alabama. He died in 1920 at the age of 75 in Clarke County, Alabama.

xiii. Rufus A. Sellers, born 1848, Clarke County, Alabama; married Rhoda Partin; died 1870, Clarke County, Alabama.

xiv. Jesse E. Sellers, born 27 Jan 1853, Clarke County, Alabama; married Ada Ann Toland, 13 Jan 1876, Clarke County, Alabama; died 22 Oct 1930, Coffeeville, Clarke, Alabama.

The State of Alabama
Clarke County
          In the name of God, Amen.  I, William Sellers, being sound of mind and conscious of the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death, do make and declare this instrument of writing to be my Last Will and Testament.
          Item 1st.  First.  It is my wish and desire that all my property, both real and personal, shall, after the debts of my Estate shall have been paid, be given to my beloved wife, Martha Sellers, during her widowhood.
          Item 2nd.  Second.  It is my wish and desire that none of my property shall be moved or disturbed until after the death of my wife Martha Sellers.
          Item 3rd.  Third.  It is my last will and wish that my daughters, Margaret Herrin, Martha Wiggins, and Caroline Martin shall have and receive an equal Share of my Estate after the death of my wife, Martha Sellers and that my daughter, Mary Jane May after the death of my wife, Martha Sellers, shall be paid out of my Estate the sum of $1,200.00 Twelve Hundred Dollars as her full share of my Estate, which sum of money shall be paid to her for the use of her and the heirs of her body.
          Item 4th. Fourth.  It is my last will and wish that after the death of my beloved wife, Martha Sellers, my son, Andrew Sellers, shall receive out of my Estate the sum of Twenty-Five Dollars $25.00.
          Item 5th Fifth.  It is my last will and wish that after the death of my beloved wife, Martha Sellers, my son, John Sellers, have and

receive the sum of $500.00 Five Hundred Dollars out of my estate as his full share.
          Item 6th Sixth.  It is my wish and desire after the death of my beloved wife, Martha Sellers, my sons, Isaac Sellers, Hardy Sellers, Calvin Sellers, Robert Sellers, Micajah Sellers, Rufus A. Sellers, and Jesse Sellers, shall have and receive an equal Share of the Estate remaining – after the sum of $1,200.00 Twelve Hundred Dollars shall have been paid to Mary Jane May for her use and the use of the heirs of her body – and the sum of $25.00 Twenty-Five Dollars shall have been paid to Andrew Sellers  – and the sum of Five Hundred Dollars $500.00 shall have been paid to my son, John Sellers, as his full share of my Estate.
          And lastly declare the foregoing instrument of writing to be my Last Will and Testament.  I name and appoint Horace R. Williams and Jno. Figures, my beloved friends, having special confidence in their honesty and capacity, Executors of this my last will and testament.
          In Testimony Whereof, I have to this my last will and testament, subscribed my name and affixed my seal this the 26th twenty-sixth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty.                                                                                                                                                            William Sellers  {SEAL}

William's son William Oscar Sellers, born 1827, is not mentioned in the WILL above but he is listed in the 1850 Census for the Family. William Oscar Sellers died in the Civil War in 1863. 

Martha “Patsey” Martin Sellers passed away after the 1880 Census was enumerated in June 1880. No exact date has been found for her death. 



William Sellers is my 2nd Cousin 5X Removed.
