 James Patrick & Wife to James Purvis

                   This Indenture made & entered into this 15th of April AD 1848 between James Patrick and his wife Roseana of Rankin County & State of Mississippi of the first part & James Purvis of the same State and County of the second part. Witnefseth, that for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars in hand paid to the party of the First part by the part of the second the receipt whereof whereof <Sic> is herby acknowledged and confefsed the party of the first have granted, bargained, sold, and conveyed, and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and release into the Party of the second Part, his heirs  and a certain tract or parcel of land designated as the West half of the S W ¼ of Section 3, T. four,  R. five east, and the N E ¼ of the S E 1/4 of Section four,  T. 4, R. 5 East containing one hundred and twenty acres more of lefs to have and to hold said land with appurtenances thereunto belonging forever, and the party of the first Part, do promise, agree with said party  of second part his heirs and afsigns that they will by these presents warrant and defend, the above described premises against the claims of all persons whatsoever.
          In witnefs whereof the parties of the first have hereunto set their hands and seals this the date first above written.

State of Mississippi}  April 15th 1848_
Rankin County}  Personally appeared before the undersigned an acting Justice of the Peace in and for the County aforesaid Roseana Patrick the wife of the within named James Patrick and after being examined privately and apart from her husband acknowledged that she signed sealed and delivered the within obligation as her voluntary act and deed. Given under my hand and seal this the 29th day of April 1848.

The foregoing deed and certificate of acknowledgement were filed in my office for record on the 1st and were duly recorded on the 8th day of May AD 1848.

In 1848, James Purvis, Sr. has been decease for 10 years. James Purvis, Sr was the father of Roseanne (Purvis) Patrick, wife of James Jackson Patrick. The sale of this 120 acres leaves an unanswered question!

1. Why did James and Roseanne Patrick selling their land to her brother, James Purvis?
