It’s Family Time~The Pleasant Elmore “Pleas” Brock Family

Pleasant Elmore “Pleas” Brock was born 16 April 1864, a son of Hezekiah 
“Hugh” Brock and Sarah “Sallie” Morris. His father was taken prisoner on his farm in March of 1865. Pleasant was a 14 month old baby when his Father died as a prisoner of War (POW) at Point Lookout, Maryland on 12 June 1865. His Mother, “Sallie” raised 6 young boys all by herself with the help of her extended family.

Pleasant Elmore “Pleas” Brock married Nancy Jane Davis about 1888. This is based on the 1900 Census which states that Pleasant and Nancy had been married 12 years with 5 children, 3 of which were living.  Nancy Jane Davis, age 19, was the daughter of Charles Wesley “Charley” Davis and Martha Elizabeth Odom. Nancy Jane Davis was borne 2 August 1869. Pleasant Elmore “Pleas” Brock was a farmer.

On 19 January 1886, Pleasant and his brothers sold 32 acres of land to M. F. Horn.

Know all men by these presents that we Benjamin F. Brock and Michel Brock and Alsey Brock and Wm. T. Brock and Charley E. Brock and Pleasant E. Brock of the County of Chesterfield and State of South Carolina for and in consideration of one hundred and twenty eight Dollars to us in hand paid we have granted bargained sold and released and by these presents do grant Bargain sell and release unto M. F. Horn of the same State and County all that piece parcel or tract of land Situated in the said County on the South side of big Westfield Creek beginning and running as follows viz: [DB 8:529]

“Pleas” Brock and his wife Nancy Jane Davis had the following children: 

i. Nettie Gertrude Brock, born 5 Sep 1890, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; died 27 Nov 1962, Bennettsville, Marlboro, South Carolina.

ii. Charlie Benjamin Brock, born 16 Jul 1893, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Lora W. Brock, abt 1910, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Hannah Mae Deese; died 2 Feb 1962, Marlboro County, South Carolina.

iii. Michael Fred Brock was born on 5 Mar 1895 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. He died on 25 Feb 1910 at the age of 14.

iv. Infant Brock was born on 11 Feb 1897 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. He died on 15 Jun 1897 at the age of 4 months.

v. Malcum Brock was born on 29 Jul 1899 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. He died on 12 Oct 1900 at the age of 1.

vi. Rosella Brock, born 29 Jul 1900, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married William Thomas Wallace, 2 Jan 1915, Chesterfield County, South Carolina; died 24 Oct 1993, Wadesboro, Anson, North Carolina.

vii. Mary Eliza Brock, born 15 May 1902, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Jeff Broadway; married Maxie Lee Clark; died 24 Apr 1990, Hartsville, Darlington, South Carolina.

Pleasant Elmore “Pleas” Brock died ay age 62, on 25 October 1926. He is buried at Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Nancy Jane (Davis) Brock died at age 84 on 7 May 1954. She is also buried at Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pleasant Elmore “Pleas” Brock and Nancy Jane (Davis) Brock are my Great Grand Uncle and Aunt.
