It’s Family Time~The Collins Brock Family

Between 1817 and 1820, William Brock (B.1770-1780; d. bef 22 Jan 1844) moved his
family of 7 children from Chesterfield County, South Carolina to Hinds County, Mississippi. This is the same time period that many other families namely, Gilbert, James and Joseph Purvis, Parks, Rivers, Holifields and Howells families left Chesterfield migrating through Georgia and Clarke County, Alabama.

The youngest of those 7 children was a baby son named William R. Brock, b. 1817 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. William R. Brock at adulthood married Martha Ann Worrell on 17 August 1837 in Hinds county, Mississippi. Martha Ann was born abt 1820 in Georgia. Her parents were Isiah Worrell and Pearsea King.

William R. Brock and Martha Ann Worrell first born was a son arriving in March 1840. They named their first born Collins Eugene Brock, the subject of today’s blog post.

Collins Brock was born March 1840 in Hinds County, Mississippi. He was twice married. He first married Nancy J. {maiden name unknown] after 4 Sept 1860. No record of this marriage has been found. In the 1870 Census there was one child, a daughter, in the household. The daughter was born in 1857 and place of birth was listed as Georgia in the census. She was listed by the name Cordelia Brock. In the 1880 Census, Cordelia is listed as a step-daughter, she has the “MITCHIM” surname and she also has a one year old female child named “Linnie”.  

Collins Brock and Nancy J. [Maiden name unknown] had no known children. 

Nancy J. (maiden name unknown) Brock died after the 1880 census were enumerated and before 10 November 1887 when Collins married his second wife, Mrs. Rachel Virginia Barklay, widow of William Jones, aka “Jennie”.  

Collins Brock and Rachel Virginia Barklay had the following children:

 i. Collins Eugene Brock, born 11 Sep 1888, Learned, Hinds Co., MS; married Julia L., abt 1908, Hinds County, Mississippi; died 11 Jun 1958, Hinds County, Mississippi.

 ii. George Mark Brock, born 22 Sep 1890, Learned, Hinds Co., MS; married Pearl A. Harris; died 20 Jun 1951, Jackson, Rankin, Mississippi.

 iii. Katie Maude Brock, born 7 Feb 1892, Learned, Hinds Co., MS; married Rev. John Edwin Williams Sr.; died 22 Sep 1973, Jackson, Rankin, Mississippi.

 iv. Alice Belinda "Linda" Brock, born 25 Oct 1895, Learned, Hinds, Mississippi; married Frank McLenmore Haynes Sr.; died 24 Feb 1981, Jackson, Hinds, Mississippi.

v. Annie Janet Brock was born on 7 Apr 1898 in Learned, Hinds, Mississippi. She died on 19 Mar 1981 at the age of 82.

 vi. D'lo Brock, born 27 Oct 1901, Learned, Hinds Co., MS; married James Harris Pridgen Sr., 20 Aug 1926, New York, New York; died 11 Jun 1992, Monticello, Lawrence Co., MS.

Collins Brock died in 1913. His widow, Rachel Virginia Brock died 2 October 1926 in Learned, Hinds County, Mississippi.  

LEARNED RESIDENT PASSES INTO REST 

Mrs. C. E. Brock, Aged Mother of Fine Family Dies Yesterday

Mrs. C. E. Brock, aged 69, resident of Learned and Jackson died quietly at the old family home In Learned at 3:00 o'clock yesterday following a long and useful life. Funeral services will be held from the Salem Baptist church at Learned this afternoon, at 3:00 o'clock conducted by Rev. Langley, who will be assisted by Rev. D. A. McCall of Jackson. This venerable mother is survived by two sons and four daughters, all Mississippi residents with one exception . Sons are C. E. Brock and Mark Brock of Learned. Daughters are Mrs. J. E. Williams of South Carolina, Mrs. Frank Haynes of Jackson, Mrs. Jim Pridgen of Jackson, and Mrs. G. E. Godham of Terry. Many friends joined the bereaved children in mourning the passing of this devoted mother.


Collins Brock is my 2nd Cousin 4X Removed.
