It’s Family Time~The Thomas E. Sellers Family

Thomas E. Sellers was born 1 Oct 1844 in Chesterfield, South Carolina, a son of Noah Sellers and Timmey Ellen Parsons. Sometime around 1846 or 1847, Noah Sellers and his wife Timmey joined a caravan of families that moved from Chesterfield, South Carolina to Carroll County, Tennessee. Thomas was 3 or 4 years of age.

I can certainly imagine the hard work that Thomas and his 5 brothers was subjected to in Carroll County, Tennessee in the 1840's.  News that the Civil War had begun and young men were needed to defend their homeland probably sounded very romantic and exiting to the sons of Noah  and Timmey Sellers.

Thomas E. Sellers enlisted with Company K, 9th TN Cavalry, which was also called Biffle's 19th Cavalry. A local bio on his FindAGrave memorial reads: “His dates of military service are July 1, 1863 to Feb 29, 1865. In 1865, Thomas was wounded and discharged in Gainesville, Alabama when the rest of his battalion surrendered.”

After the War, Thomas returned home to Tennessee and married Mary Emeline Bradford on 17 October 1866. She was age 17 and the daughter of Alford Middleton Bradford and Nancy J. Anderson.
