Emma J. Atkinson was borne 30 May 1890 in Chesterfeild County, SC, a daughter of Samuel Henry "Sam" Atkinson and Lecty Huneycutt. She was the granddaughter of James W. Hunneycutt and Sarah Elizabeth Page.
In 1906, Emma married Gilliam Coble of Stanly County. Gilliam Coble was borne 18 Decemeber 1883, a son of David Coble and Malinda Hinson. Gilliam had beem previously married to a young lady named Mintie M. Whitley who had passed away on 15 March 1906 at the age of eighteen.
Gilliam consisdered himself a farner and listed that as his occupation but did work for awhile in the textile industries. Emma seemed to work most of her life in the textile industry. The couple never had any children.
Gilliam Coble died on 30 December 1955 in Albemarle, Stanly County, North Carolina. Emma J. Coble died 17 May 1959 in Albemarle, Stanly County, North Carolina. They are buried in Mountain Creek Cemetery, Albemarle, Stanly County, North Carolina. Emma's obituary can be found in the
