CAROLINA FAMILY ROOTS
Charles L. Purvis,  aka Charlie

Hello,
I would like to welcome you to my blog. I grew up in North Carolina and  enlisted into the Air Force at age 18. I have travel the world with the Air Force and with my wife after retirement. Now the wife and I are retired. We are back in North Carolina and life is good.

  8. While Eli can be found in the 1840-1870 census I have no further information on him and his wife. A son, Alfred, is buried in Chesterfield but no names are listed for his parents on his SC death certificate. Find A Grave Memorial# 39778654

  11. Hello Charlie. What a wonderful website!! I have just found my bio dad after 55 years and am meeting him next week. I can finally search for MY family - and they are the 'Jordans' and have lived in South & North Carolina for ever. I am on Ancestry and have my dna on there - and am busy researching and building my paternal side family tree. You are inspiring and I hope one day to be able to have a website/blog for my fathers side. I have one sticking point in that my Great Grandfather was supposedly in Pageland County Jail around 1920... and I can't find a death cert anywhere. I'm thinking the Jail might have held records but can't find where they might be either! I just love all the 'new' family I am finding. Even though it's driving me slightly mad with all the hours starting at my computer :). Tracey.

  12. Hi Charlie, it was a surprise to me that you showed up on my family tree in Ancestry.com. We share great-great grandparents, Samuel and Sarah Deese. My grandfather George Melton's mother was Sarah Deese, sister to John Calvin Deese. My mother was a Melton. My mother's last sibling past away recently: Major Melton. I've written you before but didn't realize the family connection. I hope to attend the Melton-Deese reunion next time in Lilesville. Blessing, Darrell Clark

  14. Hi Charlie,

I am also a descendent of Phillip Sellers & Mary. They are my 5g-grandparents. I'm searching for data on their daughter Edy/Eady b. 1797 d. 1879. I've seen it suggested her name was Edith, but no firm data. Edy was a name given in subsequent generations. Edy married David Weaver of Lexington County, SC (Ninety-Six District). Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated!
    Your cousin,
    Amy

  15. Amy, Thanks for your post. I don't have a daughter Edy or Edith for Phillip & Mary but I have no doubt that there may be an Edy or Edith. Can you share what you already know? Ther's an E-mail link on the right sight Column of this page near top. Look for Yellow Envelope.

  17. Thank you for your presentation today for the Chesterfield County Genealogy group. I'm so grateful for the technology in today's world that allows us to participate via Zoom. I know that you and I communicated many years back about the Davis, Rivers, and other lines - I think it was via letter and email. I'll spend some time reviewing your AMAZING blog. I'm grateful for good people like you who have spent untold hours and resources in documenting and organizing - and now sharing your family history. You're an inspiration to me.
