Graham Gathings was the son of Charles Gathings and Clarasea Bailey. Graham enlisted into the Civil War on 15 February 1863 at Wadesboro, North Carolina. He reported sick to Winder Hospital on 13 June 1864. He died on 4 July 1864.

Two of his brothers also died in the War; Charles Gathings on  27 October 1862 at Petersburg, Virginia and Thomas C. Gathings on 1 July 1863 at Gettysburg, Virginia.

Graham was married to Ann Haynie and had 4 children, a son and 3 daughters. His youngest daughter, Martha Ellen, was born after his death and the other 3 children were ages 11 and under.

On 5 October 2004, I along with my cousin M. T. Gathings visited Graham’s grave site at the Hollywood Cemetery. The grave was identified as Grave U-290.

M. T. Gathings, the grand nephew of Graham, submitted the documents and paperwork to have a Military Tombstone placed on his grave in the Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia.

M. T. and I again visited Graham’s grave site in September 2006 to take photos of the grave marker in place. The photo above is one of those taken on that day in September 2006.
