Mrs. Laura P. Craig

CHERAW, March 3.-Mrs. Laura P. Craig died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Irene Reid, Sunday Night, aged 89 last November. She was the Widow of the late Dr. J. C. Craig, who had an extensive practice in this county and in North Carolina, and died in 1877. Before marriage she was Miss Laura S. Purvis, and in the Purvis and Craig families she was extensively connected in Chesterfield County. She had five children, all of whom survive her; Mrs. Irene Reid, Cheraw; Mrs. P. H. Joyner, Princeton, N.C.; Mrs. J. D. Frierson, Brooksville, Fla.; Mrs. J. S. Reid, Columbia and A. W. Craig, Brooksville, Fla. The funeral services were held at the house yesterday afternoon, the Rev. G. H. Harmon officiating. Interment was in the Cheraw cemetery. 1
Laura Sarah Purvis was born 6 November 1824, the 3rd child of John Purvis and Sarah McMillian.She married Dr. James Chapman Craig, 18 January 1848 in Chesterfield, South Carolina. She died 1 March 1914 and was buried at Old Saint David’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, Cheraw, South Carolina.
