Sunday’s Obituary~Mr. William James Purvis
Mr. William James Purvis
(September 25, 1863 – June 8, 1941)
DATELINE: Morven , NC
DECEASED: Mr. William James Purvis, 77, died Sunday morning, June 8, 1941.
FUNERAL SERVICE: The funeral was held at the home near Morven at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon. Rev. J. P. H. McNatt, Presbyterian pastor, was assisted by the Methodist and Baptist ministers, Rev. P. T. Dixon and Rev. C. E. Stevens.
INTERMENT: Zoar Methodist Church Cemetery
VISITATION: His body will remain at the home until time for burial.
HISTORY: William James was the son of William A. Purvis and Sarah [Jane] Graves Purvis. [Comments: His wife Mary Hulda Previtte, of 58 years preceded him in death three years ago.]
SURVIVORS: Surviving Mr. Purvis are one son, J. W. Purvis, of Morven, and three daughters, Mrs. Ervin Brock, of Chesterfield, S. C. and Mrs. Lucian Deese and Mrs. John Lang, both of Morven.
William James “Jim” Purvis is my Great Grandfather.

Charlie, it is interesting that the newspaper not only said his wife had died already but when she died. I have not seen that before in an obituary.
