It’s Family Time~Iverson L. Briley

It's Family Time
On 12 January 1835, Hardy Sellers, Sr. of Chesterfield County, South Carolina passed away. The estate papers generated after his death show that he left behind numerous children and grandchildren. One of those grand children named was Iverson L. Briley, son of Jane, a  deceased daughter of  Hardy Sellers

[#25] Evans, John Exer. vs. H.H. Sellers & others - Bill for partition & c 1851
See Will of Hardy Sellers. Hardy Sellers died testate on or about 17th January 1835, leaving widow, Levinia Sellers and children: Hardy Huntley Sellers and Zylpha Ann Sellers and the children & grandchildren from a former marriage, John Sellers; Abraham Sellers; Philip Sellers; Richard Sellers; Mary who intermarried with Thomas Gaddy; Elijah Gulledge, James Gulledge, & Pheobe Gulledge the children of Pheobe, a deceased daughter of Hardy Sellers who predeceased her father; and, Iverson L. Briley, the son of Jane, a deceased daughter of Hardy Sellers who predeceased her father.

Jane, the daughter of Hardy and Mary, had married Iverson H. Briley about 1824. This date is based on the age of their only child, Iverson L. Briley, whose birth year calculates to be 1825 based on census data.

It is suspected, since only one child is named, that Jane succumb to complications related to childbirth. Since no mention of the grandson is made to suggest he lived outside of the state I believed that in 1835 Iverson H. Briley and his son Iverson L. Briley were still residing in Chesterfield County, SC.

Sometime after that day the senior Iverson H. Briley left Chesterfield with his son and migrated to Franklin County, Mississippi where Iverson L. Briley, the son, married Sarah L. Higdon on 9 June 1851.

Iverson L. and Sarah L. would grow their family with the birth of three children over the next few years; all the children would be daughters.

The children were:
i. Mary E. Briley was born in 1856.
ii. Emily L Briley was born in 1859.
iii. Clarissa Briley was born in 1860.

Then sometime before Apr. 1870, Iverson L. Briley must have passed away. On 6 April 1870, in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana, Sarah L Briley married George W. Tier.

Sadly this marriage would be a short one with the passing of Sarah L. Higdon Briley Tier on 21 August 1871.

Court documents show that Sarah’s Mother Louisiana Faulkner, wife of AW Faulkner, and George W. Tier, the step-father, both applied to the Courts for Custody of the three girls, Mary, Emily and Clarissa.

Then on 22 March 1872, George W. Tier passed away and in September 1879, Louisiana Faulkner, the Grandmother, passed away.

If you have information on the 3 daughters of Iverson L. Briley and his wife Sarah L. Higdon please contact me through this web blog.

Iverson L. Briley is my 1st Cousin 5 times removed.
