Homicide. – On Friday night of last week an unhappy affray occurred at the house of Mr. John Mulloy, near Black creek, in the upper part of this district. Mr. John Blakeney a respectable inhabitant of that neighborhood and Michael Dalton, an Irishman of good character living we believe, in the same settlement, commenced a scuffle in mere sport; which in a short time became an angry one; and a regular fight ensued. Dalton it seems became too much for his adversary, who drew a knife and gave Dalton several fatal stabs, of which he died in about five minutes. Blakeney immediately fled and secreted himself in a swamp; but was pursued and very shortly taken. He is safely lodged in the Chesterfield gaol, and will have his trial during the present week, in the Court of Common Pleas and general Sessions, now sitting for this district. Ibid.
This event occurred in November 1827. There are many John Blakeney. I am not a Blakeney researcher and I have no idea which John Blakeney this article is referencing.
